Laura May Rudd (Nelson)

SIOUX CITY -- Laura May Rudd, 89, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

As per Laura's wishes, no services are planned. Her ashes will be buried next to her husband in Graceland Park Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Laura was born May 2, 1921, in Sioux City to Paul E. and Esther E. (Holmes) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Sioux City, graduating from East High in 1939 and Nettleton Business School in 1940. She worked as a bookkeeper for Roberts Dairy, Martins Department Store and Wagner Garrison & Abbot Commissions firm before retiring in 1953.

Laura married Jerome "Jerry" Rudd on Sept. 5, 1953, in Sioux City at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in Omaha for the next 15 years before returning to Sioux City in 1968. Jerome "Jerry" died on Jan. 27, 1997.

Laura was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Naomi Circle and Tuesday Morning Fellowship and Craft Club. Her hobbies included traveling, boating and fishing. She spent summers at Leech Lake near Walker, Minn. for 28 years. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts and baking.

Survivors include her sister, Jean and Jack Arburua of Los Banos, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jim and Mary Anderson, John and Naomi Wansink, Ken and Joyce Beals and Sol and Mary Murad, all of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Phyllis MacGregor and Frances Bales; a brother, Paul E. Nelson Jr.; a nephew; and a niece.
