Laurence K. "Larry" Welsh, 89, of Sioux City, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.
Private family graveside services will be today in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. today at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Laurence Kenneth "Larry" Welch, the son of Martin and Maude (Carroll) Welch, was born March 3, 1928, in Sioux City. He received his education in Sioux City, graduating from Trinity High School in 1947 and going on to attend Morningside College.
In 1950, Larry was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Geral Dean Pickering. He was employed with Mid-American Energy (formerly IPS) for 40 years.
Larry enjoyed golfing at Green Valley Golf Club. The couple also traveled to Europe several times, along with taking several cruises.
Larry is survived by his wife, Geral Dean of Sioux City; two children, Marilynn Irene (Frank) Ulm of Greenwood, Neb., and Dennis Lawrence (Janet) Welch of Grand Junction, Colo.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Irene.
