Laurin "Phil" Snyder, 86, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Sioux City.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. There will be no visitation. Online condolences may be sent to

Laurin "Phil" was born July 11, 1922, at Lewistown, Mont., the son of Laurin and Mable (Huntley) Snyder. As a child, he moved with his family to Sioux City in 1927. Phil attended school and graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1940. He continued his education at Morningside College. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943, and served until his honorable discharge in 1946.
He married Marie Meyer on Nov. 19, 1959. Together they made their home in Sioux City. Phil worked as a salesman at Quaker Oats Co. for 14 years and sold auto parts for over 20 years. Marie died on April 1, 2005.
Phil was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He was also an Abu Bekr Shriner and was on the Foot Patrol. He enjoyed gardening and playing golf, which he was able to do up until a few months ago.
Survivors include two grandsons and their wives, Troy and Nicole Meyer of Aurora, Colo., and Robert and Liz Meyer of Thornton, Colo.; two great-grandsons, Jake and Owen Meyer; and a sister, Lorraine Rodeen of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; a son, LeRoy Snyder; a brother, Robert Snyder; and two sisters, Lola Duway and Doris Scheffler.
