LaVonne E. Dziurawiec, 57, of Sioux City died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther, Pastor and Monsignor Richard E. Zenk, Pastor of St. Patrick Church in Akron, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
LaVonne was born on Dec. 18, 1949, in Randolph, Neb., the daughter of Arthur N. and Gladys M. (Schutt) Backer. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1968. She then came to Sioux City and graduated from Stewarts School of Hairstyling.
She married Jerome J. "Jerry" Dziurawiec on Sept. 6, 2003, at the Nativity Catholic Church in Sioux City. LaVonne had been employed as a hair stylist at Hair by Stewarts Beauty Salon in Sioux City for the last 38 years.
She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved being involved in the lives of her family, friends and customers. She loved to cook, bake and entertain with her family and friends. She would decorate the house for any and all holidays. She enjoyed sewing, working in her flower garden and walking. She was a very energetic person. She also donated blood at the Siouxland Community Blood Bank and was a member of the Seven Gallon Club. She was blessed with a wonderful smile, a caring heart and a generous soul. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Sioux City; her mother, Gladys Backer of Randolph, Neb., a sister, Lynette Newth and her husband, Michael of Gering, Neb.; brothers, Edwin Backer and his wife, Rosie of Sioux City and Don Backer and his wife, Jackie of Randolph; a brother-in-law, Jim Dziurawiec of Sioux City; sisters-in-law, Judith Sanders and her husband, John of South Sioux City and Cindy Joyce and her husband, John of Eden Prairie, Minn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur N. Backer.
Pallbearers will be Lukas Newth, Lance Newth, Jacob Backer, Jim Dziurawiec, John Joyce and John Sanders Jr.
Memorials may be made in her name for cancer research.
