Lawrence “Larry” Earl Goetschius, 72, of Sioux City passed away February 12, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 10:30 am at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes Morningside Chapel, located at 1801 Morningside Ave, with Pastor David Zirpel of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Prayer service at 6:30 pm at Christy Smith Morningside Chapel (located at 1801 Morningside Ave). The burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Larry was born November 29, 1950, in Sioux Falls, SD to Perry E. and Lillian G. (Hegland) Goetschius. He grew up and attended Marcus Public schools. He started working in the hide plant in 1969 which later became part of Iowa Beef Processers later becoming Tyson. He retired in 2015 as a supervisor after 46 years with the company. Larry married Lorna F. Monell on August 11, 1973, in Beresford, SD. The couple made Sioux City their home and had two children Joseph and Beth. Larry served in the US Navy Reserve for many years, being honorably discharged in May 1995. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, visiting with people, playing games, gambling, gardening, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife Lorna of Sioux City, son: Joseph E. Goetschius and his wife Beth Ann and their two children; Jaden and Sam all of Sioux City, daughter: Beth Smyser and her husband Chad of Sioux City, a sister Elizabeth (Merle) Schmidt Sr. of Sioux Falls, SD, five brothers; Lewis (Melissa) Goetschius of Sioux Falls, SD, Owen Goetschius of Missouri, Ted Goetschius of Milbank, SD, Lynn Riveland of Minnesota, Lyle Riveland of Minnesota; Chad Angerman of Sioux City and a special friend; Mary Caskey of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Gene, infant sister Jane, two brothers Robert and Jerry Goetschius, three sisters Beverly Erickson, Barbara Gandy, and Sharyn Debelts.
A very special thanks goes to Dr. Nick Bechtold at Family Health Care for taking such good care of Larry. He thought highly of you.
Another special thanks for Crystal Thompson for always cooking his favorite meals. He enjoyed her cooking.
Thanks to Hospice nurses and staff, plus all the nurses that came out throughout the years.
