Leah Rae Johnson, 33, of Sioux City, passed away Dec. 10, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals. She lost a courageous fight with melanoma cancer.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Leah was born on April 1, 1983, in Sioux City, the daughter of Kirk and Connie Johnson. She graduated Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School in 2001 and attended Buena Vista University.
She loved being outdoors, boating, fishing, and camping. She also loved to garden and prepare family meals with her harvest. Family time was very dear to Leah and she adored spending time with her nephews. Leah was a very creative person and always stayed busy. She enjoyed being handy around the house and loved learning how to do things herself. When she couldn't be outdoors, she loved sewing, pottery, cooking, baking, and playing word games.
Leah is survived by her parents, Kirk and Connie Johnson of Sioux City; her brother, Joe, his wife, Stephanie and their two boys, Jackson and Brigston of Smithville, Mo.; her brother, Luke of Sioux City; grandmother, Mary Johnson of Sioux City; and grandparents, Art and Kay Huser of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Richard Johnson.
