LeAnn L. Lary, 85, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City, with the Rev. Tim Bonney of Grace United Methodist Church officiating, Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Graceland Cemetery, Madison, S.D. LeAnn was born on Dec. 19, 1929, in Madison, to John and Lucille (Trotter) Hallenbeck. She grew up and attended Madison Public Schools, graduating from Madison High School.
LeAnn married Joseph Lary on Jan. 24, 1953, in Flint, Mich. The couple had five children, Jodi, Janis, Jill, Mark and Joy. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1961. LeAnn was employed with Truck Haven as a bookkeeper until her retirement.
Mrs. Lary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at Washington Elementary for many years helping children with reading problems. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting and playing cards. LeAnn was a member of the Crosstown Card Club for more than 50 years and a member of the American Business Women's Association.
Survivors include five children, Jodi and Linda Money of Courtland, Ohio, Janis and Sam Davis of Youngsville, N.C., Jill and Thaddaeus Sand of Sioux City, Mark and Diane Lary of Sioux City, and Joy and Mitch Erbes of Ozark, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard and Chong Hallenbeck of Seattle, Wash.
LeAnn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph in 1988; and a grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the Alzheimer's Association.
