Lee Messenger of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, in Sioux City.
At his request, Lee donated his body to the University Of Iowa Medical School for research. Ultimately his body will be returned to Sioux City and services will be scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Lee was born on Jan. 2, 1924, in Callaway County Mo. In 1941, after graduating from Hickman High School and attending the University of Missouri for one year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was assigned to many military training programs including B-17s, PT-19s, and BT-13s. His B-17 crew joined the 398 Bomb Group in England during World War II.
He married Roselle Carr in 1945 and moved to Kansas City, Mo. They had seven children. He worked in pharmaceutical sales for more than 30 years. Most of that time was with Wyeth Laboratories. Roselle died in 1972. Lee married Esther Wieland of Sioux City in 1973. Esther died in 1996. Lee married Maxine Meis in 1997.
Lee enjoyed many years of boating, golfing, and spending winters in Casa Grande, Ariz. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Lee is survived by his seven children, John and his wife, Linda Messenger of Grayslake, Ill., Mary and husband, Phil Netley of Palm Desert, Calif., Jane and husband, Mark Prather of Marco Island, Fla., Jackie and husband, Jim Norris of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jean and husband, Craig Broyhill of Dakota City, Greg and wife, Cheri Messenger of East Helena, Mont., and Tom and wife, Janeene Messenger; stepchildren, Brad Wieland and Michelle Wieland; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
