HORNICK, Iowa | Lela M. Williams, 65, of Hornick passed away Aug. 16, 2012 at her residence, following a short illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Reformed Church at 4100 Outer Drive North in Sioux City, with the Rev. Bob Rook officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy–Smith Funeral Homes.
Lela was born on Jan. 28, 1947, to Dewey and Viola (Woerner) Krumwiede. She grew up and attended grade school in Homer, Neb. She then attended high school in South Sioux City and graduated in 1965; later attending Wayne State College.
Lela married Norman Williams on Jan. 13, 1968, in Homer, Neb. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Hornick area, where they have resided since. Lela was a homemaker and a farm wife while raising her children. She later worked at MCI and Younkers, and was most recently enjoying retirement with her husband and family.
While her children were young, she taught Bible school, Sunday school, and was a 4-H leader. Lela was a current member of Peace Reformed Church, where she thoroughly enjoyed her Bible studies with many friends. She loved being a farm wife but especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her cat, Bo. Her enjoyments in life included cooking, baking, sewing, swimming, and reading, as well as being outside in the yard and gardening. She lovingly prepared many family meals from scratch.
Survivors include her husband, Norman of Hornick; four children, Sheri and Shawn Counterman of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shane and Angie Williams of Bronson, Iowa, Shanda and Brian Murphy of Bronson, and Shauna and Jason Yockey of Hornick; eight grandchildren, Skyler, Brittany, Cassie Counterman and Cody, Ashley, Casey, Dakota, and Haley Williams; and one brother, Neil Krumwiede of Homer.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Keene Krumwiede.
