SIOUX CITY -- Lena Meier, 85, of Sioux City departed this earth on March 29, 2010, to be with her beloved husband, Clarence.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Pastor Russell Senstad and the Rev. David Zirpel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5:30 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Lena was born in Sioux City on Jan. 20, 1925, to James and Clara (Day) Copenhaver. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City, where she met and fell in love with her husband, Clarence. They were wed on Oct. 3, 1942, and were married 65 years until his passing on June 20, 2007. Lena worked alongside Clarence in founding the family business, Meier Towing in 1951. She was the bookkeeper and assisted with the day-to-day operations along with raising four daughters.
She was a lifelong member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Lena enjoyed sewing, bowling, representing the State of Iowa Women's Bowling Association for a number of years, golfing, having lunch and playing cards with her good friend, Joyce Prescott, and the other ladies at Hidden Acres Golf Course, and in recent years, cheering on Tiger Woods.
Lena leaves behind her four daughters, Carol and Steve Painter of Zebulon, N.C., Judy Day of Sioux City, Nancy Meier of North Sioux City, and Terry Meier of Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Darrell and Evelyn Copenhaver of Des Moines.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Clarence; son-in-law, Chuck Day; grandson, Jacob Lewis; four brothers; and four sisters.
IIn lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Sunrise Retirement Building Fund.
