Leona E. Laferriere, 69, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Leona was born on March 21, 1945, in Sioux City, the daughter of Chris and Mabel (Fink) Borgan. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Central High School.
Leona married Kenneth Trudell in the early 1960s. They later divorced but remained friends. She married Reynold Laferriere on June 19, 1983. They made their home in Sioux City. Over the years, Leona worked at Max Speedy Auto Wash, Metz Bakery and later for Hallmark Care Center for more than 20 years. Reynold died in 2012.
Leona loved her two dogs, Chewy and Gizzy. She liked to go to the Argosy Casino, where she had been lucky many times. She also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles and watching the Walton's and horror movies.
Survivors include her five daughters, Rose Richard of Nevada, Lucille (Terry Sr.) Case of Sioux City, Tina (Dennis) Headlund of Sioux City, Mary Rienert of Correctionville, Iowa, and Denise (Todd) Svoboda of Elliott, Iowa; two stepsons, Donald Laferrierre and Thad (Jannae) Laferriere of California; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise (Charles) Preston of South Sioux City; and a brother, James Epperson of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reynold; grandson, Frankie; and great-granddaughter, Madison.
