LeOra Lillian Amunson (Bargenquast)

MOVILLE, Iowa -- LeOra Lillian Amunson, 90, of Sioux City, formerly of Moville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, with the Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. LeOra L. (Bargenquast) was born July 1, 1920, to John and Pauline (Hansen) Bargenquast. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She attended Manilla (Iowa) Public School, where she graduated in 1938. She took normal training in high school, which qualified her to teach in a rural school. She taught rural school for three and one half years.
On Nov. 8, 1941, she married Clifferd Amunson in Omaha. The couple lived and worked for a farmer near Kirkman, Iowa. In 1943, they moved to a farm near Irwin, Iowa, and started farming for themselves for three years. At this time, they moved to a farm near Botna, Iowa, where they farmed for two years. They then moved to the family farm near Soldier, Iowa, where Clifferd was born. Four children were born to this couple, three sons, Keith, Garland, and Gary and a daughter, Jean. The family joined the Lutheran church in Soldier, where they were active in Sunday School, Luther League, choir, Ladies Aid and circle. The four children attended Soldier and East Monona public school, where they all graduated from high school.
After the children were all grown, married and started their own lives, the couple retired from farming and moved to Moville. LeOra again got involved in church work such as TLCW and circle. She participated in a tap dancing group for several years. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and wrote poetry for birthdays and anniversaries.
Survivors include her children, Keith and his wife, Joan, Garland and his wife, Nancy, Gary and his wife, Linda and Jean Moser; grandchildren, Jill and her husband, Dustin Mullaney, Jess Moser, Brent and Kristi Amunson, Patrick Amunson, Kathryn and her husband, Stefan Johnson, and Susan Amunson; great-grandchildren, Paige, Jackson, Kaiya, Tristan, Tauren and Sophie; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifferd, two sisters, Freda Ewoldt and Leta Bockelmann; two brothers, Johnny and Ed; a son-in-law, Gary Moser; and a grandchild, Jennie Lynn Moser.
