Leora M. "Mae" Stowe, 79, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Erpelding will officiate. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection, Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mae was born on Jan. 13, 1936, in Jefferson, S.D., the daughter of Vernon and Marie E. (Putnam) Stowe. She was raised in Jefferson until the family moved to Sioux City in the early 1940s. Mae attended Hopkins School and St. Boniface Catholic School. Mae worked in the kitchen of several restaurants in Sioux City including The Green Gables. She later worked in the kitchen at the Casa Del Rey restaurant until she retired in 2008.
She was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, watching Days of Our Lives and playing with her cat, Belle. What she loved most was spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Raymond (MaryLou) Stowe of Littleton, Colo., Alice Leopold of Sioux City, Bob (Donna) Stowe of Sioux City, Judy Gustad of Tuscon, Ariz., Dolores "Dorey" Stowe and Deion Weltikol of Moorhead, Minn., and Charles (Soni) Stowe of Sioux City; nieces, Cathy Leopold, Deb Allison, and Marie Marshall; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David and Larry; brothers-in-law, Ed Leopold and Wally Gustad; and her nephew, Kyle Heck.
