Leroy Irwin Bell, 85, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nativity. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Leroy was born on Jan. 23, 1931, in Salem, Iowa, to Robert and Mildred (Newman) Bell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served during the Korean War.
Leroy was united in marriage to Mary Swaney on Jan. 29, 1955, in South Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City. Leroy worked as a sheet metal mechanic for 25 years, retiring in 1984.
Leroy was a member of Church of the Nativity and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and knitting.
Those left to honor his memory include his three sons, Robert (Dona) Bell of Lake Zurich, Ill., William (Judy) Bell of Sioux City, and Thomas (Dianne) Bell of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann; brothers, Willis, William, James and Lyle Bell; sister, Arlene Bell; and son, James Bell.
