LeRoy Glen DeMey, 79, of Sioux City died Monday, July 30, 2007, at Indian Hills Hospice.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Zerpel officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Dow City, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
LeRoy was born July 11, 1928, in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of William and Laura (Namanny) DeMey. He was raised in the Denison, Iowa, area.
He married Shirley J. Christiansen on April 12, 1944, in Sioux City. He worked on farms in the Crawford County area for several years. The couple moved to Sioux City. He worked for the Sioux City Stockyards for 44 years until retiring.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He loved to garden. He also loved spending time with his dog, Susie.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Sioux City; five children, Sharon Brandt of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lanny DeMey and his special friend, Mary Harvey of Denison, Iowa, Laurie and Bill Soule of Fort Worth, Texas, Lisa DeMey and her special friend, Ramon Camacho of Sioux City and Steven DeMey of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Ernest of Ames, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger DeMey; a grandson, Christopher Brandt; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Brandt; a sister; and four brothers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fritz Brandt, Rick DeMey, Adam DeMey, Kevin Brandt, James Brandt, Ramon Camacho, Billy Soule, Tony Soule and Jeff Anderson.
