SALIX, Iowa -- Leslie Doyle "Andy" Anderson, 83, of Salix died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at his residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Salix Community United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Visitation will be noon to service time today, with a wake service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Les was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Minnie Anderson. He was the second of three children with sister, Margaret, and brother, Charles. He attended school and graduated from Onawa (Iowa) High School in 1944. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Block Island during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married June Swanson in November 1946. They had a son, Bob, and a daughter, Joan. June died in November 1977. He then married Marjorie Swanson in 1978.
He worked for the Highway Department from 1946 to 1987. After retirement, he kept busy with his woodworking and operated the Sawdust Shed for many years. Les and Marge enjoyed family, friends and traveling during these years.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Anderson of Salix; a daughter, Joan and Frank Turner and son, Chris, of Olalla, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Anderson and children, Leah and Seth, of Urbandale, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Nancy and Richard Hughes and their daughter, Rachael and Scott Cary of Portland, Ore.; and a stepson, Roger and Jean Apley of Deer Park, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, June; a son, Bob; a brother; and sister.
