Lester C. Jensen, 91, of Sioux City, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City.
A gathering with family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Lester was born Jan. 6, 1924, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of John and Minnie (Olsen) Jensen. He grew up in Council Bluffs and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1941. Lester joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Arlie Groteluschen Feb. 12, 1950, in Council Bluffs. They made their home in Council Bluffs, Spencer, Iowa, Phoenix, Ariz., and finally in Sioux City.
Lester worked for Northwestern Bell for more than 35 years, retiring in 1979. Arlie died in February 2013.
He was a member of the NRA.
Lester enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Minnesota that his family built in 1968. He also liked woodworking, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his daughter, Gayle (Thomas) Canterbury of Sioux City; his son, Mark Jensen of Sioux City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roger Jensen of Council Bluffs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlie; sister, Dorothy Jessen; and a brother, John "Harlan" Jensen.
