Lewis Frederick "Lew" Malcolm III

SIOUX CITY -- Lewis Frederick "Lew" Malcolm III of Sioux City passed away Feb. 3, 2012, at his residence following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Yanney of Family Worship Center officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Lew was born Oct. 9, 1944, in Washington, D.C., the son of Lewis Frederick Malcolm Jr. and Evangeline Lavelle Malcolm. He grew up and attended school in Rockville, Md. After high school, he went on to Montgomery Junior College for two years.
On Nov. 2, 1965, Lew joined the U.S. Navy based in San Diego, Calif. and served for six years aboard the FFG Brooke, including two tours in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Navy on Nov. 12, 1971, he was employed as a service adviser at Jon Hine Pontiac for 25 years. Lew then worked as a service adviser for Guy Hill Cadillac for 10 years until his retirement in 2006. In 2010, Lew moved to Sioux City to be close to his daughter, Nikki, and her family.
Lew will be remembered as a man with a heart of gold. He enjoyed going to the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, trips to Palm Springs and gathering with friends and family for every occasion. Lew enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour novels, doing crossword puzzles, camping, water skiing and riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed spending time with his special friend, Nancy, and his granddaughter, Kinsley.
Lew is survived by a daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Nikki, Justin and Kinsley Thompson of Sioux City; two brothers, Dave and Leila Malcolm of Taylorsville, Utah, and Bruce Malcolm of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a sister, Robin and Michael Shuck of Damacus, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and Scott Malcolm of Rockville, Md.
