Lila Lee Blakely, 89, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lila was born on April 30, 1926, in Sioux City, to Fred and Mabel (Foster) McGee. She lived in Armour, S.D., before moving to Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in 1944.
She was united in marriage to Forrest Blakely on Dec. 29, 1948, in Sioux City. She was a key punch operator for Iowa Public Service and at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Western Contracting, and Mid-American Energy.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Stephen Blakely of Moab, Utah; sister-in-law, Phyllis J. Bennett of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Marcia Blakely of Salix, Iowa; son-in-law, Michael (Barb) Vakulskas of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren, Melanie (Steve) Pickering of Sioux City, Melissa (Zach) Streeter of Muscatine, Iowa, Todd (Meghan) Vakulskas of Alpharetta, Ga., Christopher (Miriam) Vakulskas of Gainesville, Fla., Scott Holden of Rawlins, Wyo., and Kara Holden, Craig, Colo.; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, Joan Gustavson of Sioux City, Pama Bennett of Sioux City, and Linda (Bob) Claerhout of Hudson, Wis.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas; daughter, Lynette Vakulskas; sisters, Mary Miller, Louise Gaynor, and Eva Lawrence; brothers, Ugene McGee and Vern McGee; and brother-in-law, Maynard Bennett.
