Lila L. (Nagel) Derby, 75, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at her home in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Pierson Cemetery, Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Lila was born May 9, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Beulah (Bornholtz) Nagel. She grew up near Pierson, graduating from Pierson High School in 1958. She moved to Sioux City in the mid 1960s. In her later years, Lila continued her education in library science and nurse's aide training at Morningside College. Over the years, Lila worked at the Pronto in Kingsley, Iowa, as a bartender and a nurse's aide.
She was an avid Hawkeye fan. She loved to live life and spend time with her family. Lila enjoyed smoking her cigarettes.
She is survived by her son, Dan (Charlotte) Derby of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Peggy Derby of Sioux City; six grandchildren, James (Kendra) Derby, Christopher Derby, Stephanie "Molly" Negaard, Marcus Negaard, Jeremy Derby and Henry Derby; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, William (Donna) Nagel of Whiting, Iowa.
Those awaiting her arrival in heaven are her parents; great-granddaughter, Ember M. Derby; and sister, Sharon Nagel.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland and friends that came to visit her in her last week.
