Lillie Elizabeth (Hamel) Mieras, 94, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Third Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Cathie Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Township Cemetery in Maurice, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Christy Smith Morningside Chapel.
Lillie was born Jan. 19, 1921, on her grandparents’ farm near Nora, Neb., to Cyrus and Harriet "Hattie" (Crandell) Hamel. At age 6 weeks, she moved with her family to a farm near Cambridge, Neb. She came to Sioux City in 1942. She worked at Wincharger during World War II.
She married Lewis Mieras on July 17, 1946. They had three children, Carol, Larry and Gregory. Lewis passed away March 19, 1978.
Lillie was a landlady from 1946 until 2013.
Lillie was a member of Third Presbyterian Church for 57 years. She was the Kool-Aid and cookie lady for Bible school for several years. She also worked at The Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Sioux City for years.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Richard) Butler of Sioux City; sons, Larry (Linda) Mieras of Orchard, Neb., and Gregory (Mona) Mieras of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Eric and Michele Butler of Sioux City, Tamara Thompson of Omaha, Michael Mieras of San Francisco, Calif., Alyssa (Todd) Arens of South Sioux City, Lisa (Chris) Barton of Papillion, Neb., and Brett (Molly) Mieras of Omaha; and great-grandchildren, Bryana, Jayden and Colin Thompson of Omaha, and Dylan, Olivia and Jaxson Arens of South Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Doran and Leo Hamel; sister, Romaine Sorensen; and great-granddaughter, Macie Elizabeth Barton.
Pallbearers will be her seven grandchildren, Eric and Michele Butler, Tamara Thompson, Michael Mieras, Alyssa Arens, Lisa Barton and Brett Mieras.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Bryana Thompson, Jayden Thompson, Colin Thompson, Dylan Arens, Olivia Arens, Jaxson Arens and posthumously Macie Barton.
