Sioux City - Linda L. Axlund, 65, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Kingsley Nursing Home after battling Multiple Sclerosis most of her life.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vivian Derochie officiating. Visitation will begin 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Linda was born on July 13, 1948, in Stromsburg, Neb. She was the daughter of Reynold and Helen (Willets) Peterson and grew up in Osceola, Neb. After graduating from Osceola High School, she continued her education at Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, Neb.
She then worked for the Lincoln Police Department for a short time before marrying Roger Nekl in 1967. They made their home in Sioux City, where she ran an in-home daycare for nearly 30 years. In 1983, Linda married Larry Axlund.
Linda loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed attending Bible studies, decorating, shopping, music and her pets, Tzu and Pebbles.
Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie (Craig) Dauffenbach of Bloomington, Minn.; three sons, Chad (Stephanie) Nekl of Sioux Falls, S.D., Corey (Dawn) Nekl of Sioux City, and Jeremy Axlund (Betty Goeden) of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Tyler Molesworth, Kenna and Kaylor Nekl and Chloe Sue Nekl; two brothers, Duane and Marilyn Peterson of Stromsburg, Neb., and Gary and Alice Peterson of Omaha; and special friends, Ted, Diana and Ben King of Sioux City.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
