Linda I Kurtzhals

Linda I. Kurtzhals, 67, of Sioux City passed away March 26, 2013, at a local hospital. Linda was a 30-year survivor of cancer. She had a reoccurring battle with breast and uterine cancer, as well as MDS and leukemia.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Linda was born on May 9, 1945, in Sioux City, to Edwin and Irene (Copenhaver) Welty. She grew up in the Climbing Hill and Moville, Iowa, area. She graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1963.
On Sept. 25, 1965, she married Al Kurtzhals at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Le Mars, Iowa. In 1972, the family moved to Alta, Iowa, where they resided until 1985. They later lived in Mesa, Ariz., from 1985 to 2003. They then returned to Sioux City, where they had resided ever since.
Linda enjoyed shopping as her number one love. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, her dogs, Tasha and Levi, and her horses, Penny, Ginger and Prince. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as being a classy, strong, spunky, dedicated wife, mother and friend, who lit up the room.
Survivors include her husband, Al of Sioux City; a daughter, Shelly and Barry Hammen of Storm Lake, Iowa; a son, Chris Kurtzhals of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Michael Hammen and Megan Hammen, both of Storm Lake, and Dietrich Kurtzhals of Colorado Springs; her mother, Irene Welty of Sioux City; her sister Donna & Lloyd Beauchene of Sioux City; her sisters-in-law, Arlene Miller of Olathe, Kansas, Roseann and Harry Mulder of Orange City, Iowa, and Doris and Ed Beitelspacher of Le Mars; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Welty; her in-laws, Albert and Ella (Kounkel) Kurtzhals; her grandparents, Orval and Jennie Copenhaver; brother-in-law Ronald Miller and special friends, Cindy Molgaard, and Larry and Mary Fellows of Alta.
