Linda McEntaffer

Linda Jean McEntaffer, 66, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital following a tragic accident at her home.
Celebration of life services will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Linda was born on Dec. 1, 1948, in Sioux City, the daughter of Eugene and Mary (Krokowski) Bennett. Linda lived her entire life in Sioux City. She attended St. Francis Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1967. Linda graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971 with a degree in Physical Education. She later earned her Master's Degree in Physical Education from the University of South Dakota.
On Jan. 18, 1971, she married Ron McEntaffer in Sioux City. Linda was proud that she was able to stay at home with her sons until they reached middle school. She began teaching elementary physical education in the Sioux City Schools in 1986 and continued until her retirement in 2014, having taught at Longfellow, Nodland, Sunnyside and Spalding Park Elementary Schools. Linda enjoyed coaching freshman volleyball at East High School for 30 years, having the privilege to teach sportsmanship, hard work and a desire to do your best for hundreds of young women. Linda took great joy in helping young students and young athletes reach their full potential.
She was a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church. What she loved most was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her husband, Ron; two sons, Paul (Stacy) of Sioux City, and Dan (Amy) of Waukee, Iowa; six grandchildren, Caitlin, William, Alec, Ava, Ella and Gus; brothers, Ray (Dianne Miller) of Sioux City, and Gary (Connie) of Muscatine, Iowa; her sister, Mary Rygh (Bill Clarke) of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews, including Annah and Mike Rygh.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
In accordance with Linda’s personal style, the family encourages casual attire (jeans and athletic clothing are acceptable).
The family will establish a memorial in Linda’s honor that will benefit and serve children as she did with great passion throughout her career and life.
