MOVILLE, Iowa -- Lloyd C. Countryman, 86, of Moville passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Char-Mac care facility in Lawton, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.
Lloyd was born July 23, 1922, in rural Moville, the son of Delbert and Millie (Hendricks) Countryman. At the age of 5, he moved with his family to the farm homesteaded by his grandfather. He graduated from Moville High School in 1940. After high school, he worked at the Consolidated Aircraft factory in San Diego, Calif. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in March 1944 and did his basic training in Amarillo, Texas.
On Sept. 7, 1945, he married Edna Neer of Lexington, Mo. they lived in the Kansas City area, where he worked at a die cast factory. In 1949, they moved to a farm near Moville, where he lived the rest of his life. The family had a dairy business for more than 14 years before selling out and starting a commercial cow/calf operation. He was the ABS representative for this area for many years. After selling his cow/calf operation, he continued to crop farm until his retirement. Edna passed away Dec. 25, 1985 in Sioux City.
He was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and the American Legion Winks-Sparks Post 303. He enjoyed learning about his family heritage, taking photos, traveling and sporting events that involved his children, grandchildren and others in the Moville community.
Survivors include his children and spouses, Darlene and Ron Bower of Kansas City, Mo., Pam and Mike Weaver of South Sioux City, Larry and Diane Countryman of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Jim and Bonnie Countryman of Moville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Fern Kumpula, Delores Harrison and Marilyn Breffle; and a brother, Willard Countryman.
He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Robert; an infant daughter; an infant grandson, Justin Weaver; and two brothers, Donald and Lawrence Countryman.
