Lloyd Richard Lacy

Lloyd Richard Lacy, age 75, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at a local hospital after a long and hard-fought battle with lung cancer. A celebration of life will be held in Allen, Nebraska, on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Allen High School.  

Richard, son of Lloyd and Elizabeth (Houghton) Lacy, was born on April 1, 1949, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana where he graduated from Byrd High School. He then attended Northwestern State University in Louisiana and majored in music. While playing principal clarinet in the Shreveport Symphony, Richard met Winnie Voss, principal bassoonist, and they were married in 1976. A son Joel Richard (Rick) was born to this couple in 1979.  The family moved to Sioux City in 1981 and in 1988 Richard became the music director at Allen, Nebraska. Richard had a tremendous impact on the band and choir programs. Inspiring great participation from the students and parents, he was able to take the band to several bowl games and direct several fully-staged musicals over the years.  A talented visual artist, he created a large mural depicting the entire town of Allen for its centennial.  Richard was a lifelong fan of the LSU Tigers.  He played semi-pro table tennis in his youth and in retirement was a member of the Sergeant Bluff Table Tennis Club.  He and Winnie enjoyed antiquing, setting up as a vendor at many shows and flea markets over the years.  He was especially passionate about Roseville pottery and was always keen to share his encyclopedic knowledge.  

Richard is survived by his son Rick of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Winnie.
