SIOUX CITY -- Lloyd R. McCall, 83, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trimble United Methodist Church, where he was a life-long member, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Lloyd was born May 8, 1926, in Castana, Iowa, the son of Russell and Ruby McCall. He was raised in Castana and attended school there.

He married Doris May Conyers on Sept. 24, 1945. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a helicopter mechanic. He spent half of his career as a manager in the grocery business for Council Oak Foods, National Tea Company and Big D. Food. He later sold machine supplies for Novelty Machine in Sioux City. The couple spent 30 years going to Texas for health reasons and getting away for the winter months.

His big interest was working and enjoying the lawn, garden and flowers. He also enjoyed repairing lawn mowers and snowblowers for friends. He was always willing to help out a neighbor by lending a tool for a project.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; and long-time friends, Tyler and Dave Blessing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Albert Hasenpflug; and an infant brother, Ronald.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Blessing, Dave Blessing, Chris Barber, Gene Manley and Ron Dirks.
