Lloyd M. Nobbe

LAWTON, Iowa -- Lloyd Marlen Nobbe, 72, of Lawton passed away Monday, May 16, 2011, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City after a five-month illness surrounded by family and friends.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery in Lawton. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Lloyd was born Nov. 8, 1938, on the family farm in Dixon County, Neb., the son of Fredrick F. and Minnie E. (Mattes) Nobbe. He was raised in the Martinsburg, Neb., area and graduated from Allen (Neb.) High School in 1956. In 1961, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a mechanic in Fort Hood, Texas. He returned to the Martinsburg area after his discharge from the service and started farming with his brother.
He married Betty Jane (Harrison) Rogers on Jan. 25, 1969, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. They moved to the family farm north of Lawton and Lloyd continued to farm until his semi-retirement in 2004. Betty died March 6, 2008, in Sioux City.
Lloyd was a member of the American Legion Post in Lawton, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2492 of South Sioux City and the Tri-State Tractor Club. He collected and restored John Deere tractors. He was especially proud of his 530 and 630 tractors. He drove them in many area parades. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
He and Betty loved going to dances. They spent many hours in their yard tending flower and vegetable gardens. He and Betty loved to travel and attend their great-grandchildren's activities. Family was the most important thing to him. Lloyd was a big fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and a follower of all local schools' sports teams.
Survivors include his five grandchildren, Kimm (Todd) Cropley, of Lawton, Matthew (Beth) Trexel of Burlington, lowa, Nathan (Tara) Trexel, of Altoona, lowa, Jill Rogers and Jeffrey Rogers, both of Santa Maria, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren, Brett and Tricia Cropley, Steven, Autumn and Mitchell Trexel, and Regan, Conner and Noah Trexel; a stepdaughter, Patricia (Bruce) Simmons of Atlantic, lowa; a stepson, Michael (Janiece) Rogers of Merced, CA.; a brother, Wilfred Nobbe of South Sioux City; a sister, Lucille (Ervin) Koeppe of Guthrie Center, lowa; a special friend, Donna Hoag of Correctionville, Iowa; and many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Orville and Norman Nobbe, and a sister Virgie Gensler.
