SIOUX CITY -- Dr. Lloyd L. Tinkle, 101, a longtime Sioux City resident, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was spending the winter.
Graveside services were held Feb. 25 at Graceland Cemetery. Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Tinkle was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Andrew, Iowa. He graduated with a B.A. degree from Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa and earned his master's degree and a doctor of jurisprudence from the University of South Dakota School of Law. He was an educator who taught every grade from kindergarten through college. He was superintendent of schools in Charter Oak and Adair-Casey Iowa. He was a professor of law for 21 years at Joliet College, Joliet, Ill., and was honored as professor emeritus when he retired. He also received the distinguished award of the Best Teaching Faculty Member of a college with an enrollment of 8,000 students with a faculty of 300.
Dr. Tinkle was a member of the Iowa State Bar Association for 50 years, the State Bar of South Dakota and a member of the American Bar Association. Dr. Tinkle served on the Sioux City Museum and County History Board of Directors. A memorial for the Sioux City Public Museum has been established in his name. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, the Consistory and Abu Bekr Shrine.
A veteran of World War II, Dr. Tinkle served in the headquarters of an ordnance division of the U.S. Army in England, Germany and France.
He was married for 50 years to Lorain Aitken Tinkle who preceded him death in 1991.
Survivors include two nieces, Donnette Aitken Hatch and Ann Aitken Richards and families.
