Lois "Joan" Hanson

Lois “Joan” Hanson, 91, died Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at a local hospital in Sioux City, IA.

A visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Larkin Chapel, 2320 Outer Drive N, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Cathedral Parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Joan Preston, the daughter of Harry and Hilma (Holt) Preston, was born March 22, 1933, in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in 1951.

On January 3, 1953, Joan was united in marriage with Glen T. Hanson in Sioux City. She was a realtor with Century 21, worked at Bomgaars, and was employed at Hinky Dinky in the meat department. Joan retired in 1990.

Joan was a member of St. Joseph Church and the church’s Ladies Guild. She also belonged to the Sioux City Police Association Auxiliary and the Sioux City History Club.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Kimberly (Arley) Rankin of Apache Junction, Arizona, Debra Keele of Sioux City, and Katy Fiksdale of Sioux City; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Susan Cherrier and Robin Michels; one granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.
