Lois E. Miller, 61, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at a local hospital.
Services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with Pastor Chuck Wolff of Riverside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral. home.
Lois was born Aug. 20, 1947, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to James and Lucy (Whitten) Cooney. She was raised in Nebraska City, Neb., and attended schools in several small Nebraska towns. She moved to Sioux City in 1973, and had been a resident here ever since. She attended Western Iowa Tech.
Lois married Joe Miller on Sept. 29, 1986, in Sioux City. She was employed as a CNA for various nursing homes in the area. From 1994 to 1999, she worked at Interbake Foods, and from 1999 to 2005, she was employed at the Sinclair Gas Station on Gordon Drive.
Lois enjoyed reading, bingo, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her puppy, Poncho, bird, Squeaky, and her two good friends, Julie Anderson and Debbie Fredrickson.
Survivors include her husband, Joe of Sioux City; daughters, Tony Hanika of Sioux City, Julie and Terry Fitzgerald of California, and Tara (Suzy) Taylor of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Rachael Oftdal of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; six great-grandchildren; four brothers; and three sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; a daughter, Cassandra Hanika; and a great-grandson, Damien Hanika.
