Sioux City - Lois Maxine Staben, 100, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Bickford Cottage.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Lois was born on Dec. 14, 1911, in Ireton, Iowa, to Rheinholt Louis and Mollie Mae (Jones) Staben. Lois attended schools in Ireton and Pierson, Iowa. She graduated from Central High in 1928. She graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1934 and from the University Hospital of Cleveland, Ohio, School of Anesthesia in 1948.
She served for four and one half years in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during World War II. She was stationed in the U.S., Hawaii, and aboard the USS Bountiful in the South Pacific. She was later employed at St. Vincent Hospital and for the late Dr. John Kelly. She retired from Marian Health Center in 1977.
Lois was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church, the Senior Center, American Legion Monahan Post 64, St. Vincent School of Nursing Alumnae, and was a former member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Survivors include a niece, Elaine and Ronald Anderson; a nephew, James Walters; a brother, Karl and Ruth Staben; a grandniece, Mollie Zimmerman of Lafayette, Colo.; a grandnephew, Todd Anderson of Pikeville, N.C.; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Claude Staben; a sister, Elsie Walters; and stepmother, Agnes.
