Lola M. Pallas (Sachau)

SIOUX CITY -- Lola M. Pallas, 84, of Sioux City went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of All Nations. The Revs. Martha Anderson, John Hantla and Fred Pilecki will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Lola was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Anthon, Iowa, to August and Lillie (Hansen) Sachau.
She was a 1945 graduate of Central High School, where she participated her senior year in a work-study program with F.W. Woolworth & Co., later becoming a floor manager. She worked at Livestock National Bank from 1947 until 1956.
She married Harold Pallas on Aug. 30, 1947, at the Church of All Nations in Sioux City. In 1956 they moved to California, where she worked for Bank of America until the mid-1960s, when she joined J.C. Penney Co. as a cosmetics consultant. In 1978, she retuned to Sioux City, where she continued working at J.C. Penney until her retirement in 1989. Harold died Feb. 3, 2000.
Lola was a longtime member of the Church of All Nations, where she served as organist for many years. She was a member of the Goodwill Industries Auxiliary, serving in all offices, through president.
She worked in the Goodwill Treasure Chest and was the 1999 Volunteer of the Year. She also was a member of the St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary. Lola served on the original South Bottoms Reunion Committee in 1980 and continued serving through the present.
Her hobbies included crocheting, cross stitch, reading, especially inspirational books, playing the organ, and baking pies, with apple and cherry her specialty. She particularly enjoyed going to breakfast with her sister, Lucy, or friends. She had a passion for pink.
Survivors include a sister, Lucy Miller-Harris of Sioux City; a brother, Eugene Sachau of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a son, Robert Pallas; her parents; and a brother, Walter Sachau.
