Lonita Joyce (Gustad) Corothers, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, 2811 Jackson St, in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Lonita was born on May 19, 1928, in Yankton, S.D., to Milton and Manilla (Olson) Gustad. She attended Pleasant Valley Grade School, Volin (S.D.) and Yankton High Schools. She completed her education at the College of Pharmacy at South Dakota State University in Brookings, graduating in 1950.
She was united in marriage to Thomas E. Corothers on June 24, 1951, in Volin, at Zion Lutheran Church. They resided in Sioux City, working in the health professions. Thomas as a microbiologist, then health director. Lonita as a pharmacist in hospitals and various retail pharmacies. They had a son, John Milton, who passed away in an accident in 1972 at the age of 19. Thomas preceded her in death in 1998.
Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Roberta Gustad of Honolulu, Hawaii; and several cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; and son, John Milton.
