Funeral services for Lorraine “Lorrie” Oostenink, 84, of Sioux City will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Sunnybrook Community Church with Pastor Jeff Moes officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the church. Lorrie passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her residence. Lorraine Oostenink was born on September 26, 1925, in Hull to Gerrit and Hattie (Rikkers) Oostenink. She attended and graduated from Hull high school with the class of 1943. She continued her education doing her undergraduate studies at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and she received her masters at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Lorrie taught school for 37 years in Michigan, California and Iowa. She retired in 1990 from Lincoln School in Sioux City.
She was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church and was a choir member for many years and involved in adult Sunday school.
She was a member of the Sioux City and Iowa retired school personnel, Fidelis Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority and St. Luke’s Auxiliary. She did volunteer work at the old St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marian Health Center, St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center, the Soup Kitchen and the American Cancer Society Reach for Recovery program.
Lorrie is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Geels of Sioux Center and Garneth Oostenink of Sioux City; brother Dr. William Oostenink of Hamilton, New York, six nephews; three nieces and several great nephews and nieces.
Her parents and sister, Mrs. Verna Bouma preceded her in death.
