MOVILLE, Iowa -- Lowell F. Nielsen, 91, of Kingsley, Iowa, formerly of Moville, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, with the Rev. Mark Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. Lowell was born east of Moville on Feb. 13, 1917, the son of Peter and Mary (Cohrt). As a young child, the family moved by train to eastern Nebraska for a few years, then moving back to Iowa. They moved around to several towns in Woodbury, Ida and Monona counties.
He married Naomi Negless on Nov. 29, 1939. Together, they farmed in the Ida Grove, Iowa, area until moving to the Moville area, where they continued to farm. Naomi passed away July 21, 2006, in Sioux City.
He knew how and loved to fix machinery and large farm equipment. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He is survived by a son, Richard and Jeannie Nielsen of Kingsley, Iowa; two brothers, Ervin and Rose Nielsen of Sioux City and Marvin Nielsen of Odebolt, Iowa; a sister, Luvern Werner of Lakefield, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Raymond; and several brothers and sisters.
