Lowell H. "Palsy" Schiefen, 84, of Kerrville, Texas, a former Sioux City resident, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, in Kerrville following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church in Le Mars, Iowa. The Rev. Mark Stoll will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Lowell was born on Oct. 19, 1931, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Francis and Christine Schiefen. He married Sharon Camarigg, the love of his life, on Dec. 16, 1977, in Sioux City.
He grew up in Le Mars and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He worked as an electrician for Iowa Public Service/Mid America Energy for 30 years. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and went on to achieve the rank of master sergeant in the Air Force Reserve. He was Airman of the Year in 1979 and 1984 with the 185th Combat Support Squadron of the Iowa Air National Guard prior to his service at Offutt AFB in Omaha. Lowell had a lifelong passion for flying and aviation. He was known as "Palsy" to his friends and family.
Lowell and Sharon moved to Kerrville, Texas, in 1995, where they became longtime members of Notre Dame Church. He was an ACTS member and active in the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. In his spare time, he loved volunteering for Ava Marie Hospice and St. Vincent DePaul in Kerrville.
He is survived by his children, Kathy, Dan, Gail, Dennis, Lisa, Jeff and Mike; sisters, Eunice, Veronica, Kathleen, and Cynthia; a brother, Virgil; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon.
A memorial has been established in his name.
