SIOUX CITY -- Lucille Hayden, 86, of Sioux City died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at her residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Boyden, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Lucille was born July 18, 1924, in Little Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Klaus and Sophia (Bahlke) Hollander. She was raised in Boyden and attended St. John's Parochial School. She was confirmed on April 10, 1938, by the Rev. Hein at St. John's Lutheran Church. Her Bible verse was Matthew 24:13, "He who endures shall be saved." She attended and graduated from Samuel's Beauty School in Sioux City. She worked as a hair dresser for many years. She worked for a short time at Aalfs and Zenith before working at Interbake Foods for 14 years, until she retired.
She married Joe "Dean" Engle on Feb. 23, 1952. She married Vinton Hayden on April 14, 2000.
She was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church, where she was an active volunteer and was part of Ruth's Circle. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and reading cookbooks. She also enjoyed quilting, doing crossword puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune.
Survivors include her husband, Vinton Hayden of Sioux City; two daughters, Stephanie and Peter Goede of Eagen, Minn., and Andrea and Clark Johnson of Hinton, Iowa; two sons, Mark and Bobbi Engle of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Rick and Jean Hayden of Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Whitney Goede, Dane Goede, Brandon Curry, Lacey Curry, Bridget Twedt, Meggan Johnson, Kelsey Engle, Kylie Putz, Brian Hayden, Carri Jues, Ashley Seyall, and Chad Hayden; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Kruse of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Deanna Tiedeman of Hull, Iowa; a brother, Lyle and Lorna Hollander of Boyden, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, LaVonne Lois Hollander of George, Iowa, and Lois Hollander of Boyden.
She was preceded in death by her father, Klaus Hollander; her mother, Sophie Hollander; her stepmother, Mary Hollander; an infant sister, Margaretha Hollander; brothers, Waldo and Wilbert Hollander; and a brother-in-law, Albert Kruse.
