Lucymae Jones

March 13, 1921 — January 12, 2015

Mother Lucymae Jones, 93, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Embassy Healthcare Community in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Mother Lucymae Jones entered this life on March 13, 1921, in Wilmot, Ark., as the firstborn of six beautiful daughters to Essie and Samuel Wimberly. Lucymae grew up in the southern Arkansas/northern Louisiana area, where she attended Slack Lee Grant Colored High School in Wilmot.
Lucymae gave her life to Christ at the tender age of 12 at Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Parkdale, Ark. She loved the Lord as a youth, and that relationship with God proved to be the main staple in her life, as is evident in the lives of all her children.
Lucymae Wimberly married Warren Hester Fenceroy in 1941. Twelve children were produced from this union in Wilmot, where they lived with their family, raising crops on the property adjacent to their home.
Mother Lucymae moved to Sioux City in 1965 and was later divorced from Warren Fenceroy after many years of marriage. In Sioux City, Mother Lucymae worked a variety of jobs throughout her work life. She worked for several local packing plants, cleaned houses, worked several years as a wire cutter for Zenith Television and Radio and was a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Hospital. She also worked remotely for her son, Samuel Fenceroy, as a bookkeeper for his previous business venture, prior to her retirement. Mother Lucymae subsequently met and married Deacon Eddie B. Jones in 1975, who preceded her in death after his long illness.
Mother Lucymae Jones was a previous member of the I Discover You social club and a previous member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Lucymae Jones later joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she met and married Deacon Eddie Jones. While at Mount Zion, she served faithfully as a member of the Mother's Board and the Pastor's Aide. She also loved attending Sunday School, Bible Study and Prayer Meeting. She was passionate about visiting the sick and shut-ins.
Mother Lucymae Jones loved meeting people and never met a stranger in her life. She was the epitome of what most consider as just down home good people. In her later years as her eyesight and health began to wane, she loved listening to Bible recordings and thoroughly enjoyed listening to sermons. Mother Lucymae Jones was also a woman who loved her parents, her beloved sisters, her spouse, her children and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom all affectionately called her "Granny." Mother Lucymae Jones also had a special love for her nieces and nephews. She always referred to the spouses of her children as her own beloved daughters and sons. Her kind heart and loveable spirit was truly Christ-like and without boundaries.
Mother Lucymae Jones is survived by six sons and three daughters, Warren Jr. (Edna) Fenceroy of Brown Deer, Wis., Rev. Leotis Fenceroy of Dallas, Texas, Rev. Oliver (Kathleen) Fenceroy of Sioux City, James (Becky) Fenceroy of Sioux City, Rev. Samuel (Gloria) Fenceroy of Plano, Texas, Rev. Albert (Loretta) Fenceroy of Wilmot, Ark., Alma (Rev. Steve Schmitt) of Sioux City, Elnora (Rev. Isaac Gentry) of O'Fallon, Mo., and Charlene Fenceroy Casteel of Hayward, Calif.; 51 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Anola Byers and Artelia Henry, both of Pine Bluff, Ark., Ernestine Gardner of Peoria, Ill., and Bonnie Pearl Dedrick of Pine Bluff.
Mother Lucymae Jones was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Schexnayder; her parents; her husbands; two sons, Napoleon Fenceroy and the Rev. Carl Fenceroy; and her daughter, Carolyn Fenceroy.
She will be missed by her family, the Mt. Zion Baptist Church family and by the entire Siouxland community.
