Luella Phyllis Gordon (Idso), 90, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at her residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Luella was born on April 12, 1925, in Anthon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Emil Chris and Annie Christine (Petersen) Claussen. She moved to Sioux City as a small child and attended Central High School.
On April 17, 1943, she married Wayne Gordon Sr. in Sioux City. The couple lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Wayne was stationed in the service. When he was sent overseas, Luella returned to Sioux City. She worked at J.C. Penney's, Younkers Department Store, Pred’s Coats, Cost Cutters and T.J. Maxx.
Luella was a former member of St. James United Methodist Church and Rustin Ave. United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society, the Eagles Club and the Senior Center, where she loved to go dancing.
She is survived by her children, two daughters, Phyllis Kurzak of Sioux City, and Diana (Dave) Powers of Sioux City, and her son, Wayne “Butch” (Judy) Gordon of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Tammi (Kelly) Granaas, Amy (Nick) Clausen, David Powers Jr., Stephanie (Kevin) Kobetitsch, William (Beth) Powers, Nickie (Kelly) Quinn, Heather Gordon and Shane Gordon; and 17 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Annika, Calvin, Madeline, Ryan, Jessica, Kolby, Jacob, Abby, Auden, Cash, Irelynn, Marcus, Dominick, Jonah, Isabella, Teddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Thomas Kurzak; and three brothers, Bus, Melvin and Raymond Claussen.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Prime Living and Hospice of Siouxland for all the love and care that they gave their mother.
