SIOUX CITY -- Luella M. Goodnow, loving mother and grandmother, 96, of Sioux City passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church. The Rev. Merlin Schrad will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 6 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy Smith Funeral Home.
A lifetime resident of Sioux City, Luella was born on July 13, 1915, to Orville and Margaret (Clark) Sylvester. After graduating high school, Luella was the first in her family to attend Briar Cliff College. Luella's first job was at St. Joseph Hospital, working in medical records. She then worked for Dr. Bob Krigsten.
She later went on to work for Cohen Wholesale Grocers, where she met the love of her life, Charles C. "Monte" Goodnow, whom she married in Sioux City. Monte died on March 6, 1970, in Sioux City.
A devoted Catholic, Luella faithfully attended daily Mass and was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament. She also really enjoyed lunching and playing cards with her close friends.
Survivors include her two daughters, Joann Benson of Overland Park, Kan., and Kathy Armbright of Sioux City; granddaughters, Lisa Determan, Lori Delorit, Amy Benson, and Meghan Martin; and great-grandchildren, Johnny Delorit and Harper Determan.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Margaret; her husband, Monte; brothers, Don and Bob; and son-in-law, John A. Benson.
