CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Luke Hamilton Etler, 32, of Correctionville died Monday, May 25, 2009, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Moville, Iowa, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Private graveside services will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. Luke was born July 17, 1976, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Larry L. and JoEllen (Weaver) Etler. He was raised in Moville, where he graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1994. After high school, he was employed at Mark Davies Body Shop in Lawton, Iowa. He had lived in the Correctionville area for the last 10 years.
He married Amanda Linn on June 24, 2005, in Moville. For the last 10 years, he farmed for Weaver and Weaver Ranches and operated E.T. DirtWorks of Moville and Triple E. Trucking.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Moville. He enjoyed traveling with his family and during his travels became a PADI certified diver. After high school, he was able to travel in Australia for a summer. He also enjoyed spending time at Lake Okoboji, participating in water sports and attending Camp Foster. Following his grandfather's, Dale Weaver, footsteps, he belonged to the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America. With the Boy Scouts, he attended Camp Philmont in New Mexico and hiked the Grand Canyon. He also was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Survivors include his parents, Larry and JoEllen Etler; a son, Colton Dale Hamilton Etler of Cokato, Minn.; a daughter, Kaylinn Marie Etler of Correctionville; a sister and her husband, Beth Etler-Thornton and Matthew Thornton of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two nieces, Paige and Claire Thornton, both of Sioux Falls; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dale and Doris Weaver; and his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Frances Etler.
