JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Luverne W. Wriedt, 97, of Vermillion, S.D., formerly of Jefferson and Elk Point, S.D., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to christysmith.com.
LuVerne was born Dec. 31, 1911, on the family farm in rural Emerson, Neb. She was raised in Emerson, graduating from Emerson High School.
On Feb. 20, 1938, she married Lester C. Wriedt in Emerson. The couple moved to a farm outside of Jefferson later that year. They farmed there until their retirement in 1974, and moved to Elk Point. Lester passed away in 1997. She continued to live in Elk Point a few years until her health forced her to move to assisted living in Vermillion.
She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to cook, sew, crochet and spend time with family and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Louis Wriedt and his wife, Mary of Richardson, Texas, and Lavoy Wriedt and his wife, Judy of Jefferson; a daughter, Lavonne Wriedt, SESDAC in Vermillion, S.D.; six grandchildren, Lorinda Disier, Darin Wriedt, Tim Wriedt and his wife, Marga, Ed Wriedt and his wife, Tracy, Tamara and her husband, Brad Campbell, and Nathan Wriedt and his wife, Amy; 11 great-grandchildren; seven nephews; three nieces; and two sisters-in-law, Lora Wallwey of Emerson and Ursula Klatt of Grand Island, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Lester Wallwey.
