Lyle J. Sorensen

Sioux City - Lyle J. Sorensen, 87, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at a local care facility.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating, at Morningside Chapel, Christy–Smith Funeral Home.
Lyle was born in Hartington, Neb., to H. Louis and Estella (Koch) Sorensen. He grew up and graduated from Wynot (Neb.) High School in 1942. After high school he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1943 to January 1946. After the service, he returned to the Siouxland area and has been a resident here ever since.
Lyle was married to Phyllis Kohls on Feb. 8, 1947. She passed away on March 26,1988. He later married Thora Hicks on Sept. 28, 1991. She later passed away on July 19, 2008. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years.
He was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and later Wesley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cards, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Randall and JoAnn Sorensen of Sioux City, Dennis and RoxAnne Sorensen of Sioux City, and Charles and Terri Sorensen of Olathe, Kan.; a daughter, Karen and Robert Guyette of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Chad Sorensen, Dawn Sorensen, Tanya Bueltel, Brandi Houff, Kristi Wilkes, Cassandra Guyette, and Brianna Guyette; nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Loren and Judy Sorensen of Cherokee, Iowa, Dolores Forney of Denver, Colo., Jeannine and Richard Scott of Sioux City, Jim Sorensen of Clifton, Colo., and Terry and Jane Sorensen of Camdenton, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his two wives; parents; and brother, LaVerle Sorensen.
