Mildred ‘Verda’ Migis, 71, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Verda was born on July 1, 1944, in Sioux City, to Harold and Mildred (Kirby) Lilly. She graduated from Heelan High School and from Wayne State College with a bachelor’s degree in business.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Migis on Aug. 10, 1963, in Sioux City. Verda worked at Mercy Medical Center for 30 years as well as Siouxland Surgery Center from the time it opened until recently. She retired briefly before going back because she missed her work family.
Verda was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. She attended Bible study every Thursday. She enjoyed playing games, crossword puzzles, and having lunch with friends. Verda treasured her family vacations to Okoboji and visiting her best friend, Maureen David there. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren; they were everything to her.
Verda was the sweetest, gentlest, kindest, stubborn, most patient woman ever. Even when her grandchildren would try to get her riled up, the most they could get out of her was a loving smile and "Oh, you guys."
Those left to honor her memory are her daughter, Madalen (James) Larrabee of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Erica and her fiancé, Matt Ameen, A.J. and his girlfriend, Cara Cockburn, Jake, Tyler, Jada, and Kacie Jo; four bonus great-grandchildren, Noah, Madison, Alivia, and Riley; sisters, Terese Lilly of Silversprings, Md., and Peg (Harold) Erichsen of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; four sisters; and two brothers.
