Mabel Bertha Peters (Crawford)

Mabel B. Peters, 91, of Guttenberg, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Guttenberg Care Center.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Valerie Heller officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements in Guttenberg were under the direction of Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mabel was born May 22, 1916, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Charles and Anna (Bultman) Crawford. She lived in South Dakota until after her marriage.

She married Ralph Peters on July 1, 1933, in Vermillion, S.D. This union was blessed with six children. The couple moved to Sioux City. She was employed in the retail business as a sales clerk. She moved to Guttenberg after her retirement. Ralph died March 7, 1990, in Guttenberg.

She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. She worked as a volunteer for the food bank in Sioux City and Guttenberg.

She will be remembered by her five children, Ronald (Yuriko) Peters of Columbus, Ga., Darrell (Patricia) Peters of Bedford, Texas, Diane (Gary) Boisen of Omaha, Keith (Jeanette) Peters of Fort Collins, Colo., and Karen (Robert) Merrick of Guttenberg, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Don (Lois) Crawford of Sioux City and George (Pat) Crawford of Burlington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert Peters; four brothers; and four sisters.
