MaDonna May "Scoot" Jordan (McKelvey)

May 18, 1948 — August 8, 2010

ELK POINT, S.D. -- MaDonna May "Scoot" Jordan, 62, of Elk Point died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, in Jefferson, S.D.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Mary Feistner of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Elk Point, officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to christysmith.com.

Scoot was born May 18, 1948, to Robert and Gwen (Tresham) McKelvey of Jefferson, S.D. Her father nicknamed her "Scoot" as a baby when she refused to crawl, but instead chose to get around by scooting everywhere. Her determination to do things her way served her will in life. When Scoot wasn't busy raising her own three children or chasing her four grandchildren, she kept busy raising approximately 150 other children throughout her life as a dedicated and headstrong foster mother. Though some would stay for only a short time and others much longer, she touched each and every one of their lives. She lived by the motto that she didn't care what kind of house she lived in or how much money she had, her life was richer because she had been important in the life of these children.

She married Roger Jordan in April 1983.

Her hobbies included camping, fishing and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She won the very first powderpuff derby at the Interstate Speedway in Jefferson.

Survivors include her son, Jim and Jennifer Swanson of Homer, Neb.; her mother, Gwen McKelvey of Jefferson, S.D.; her husband, Roger Jordan of Jefferson; two daughters, Theresa Gunderson of Homer and Judy Jordan of Elk Point; four grandchildren, Dyllan, Austin, Sam and Sidney; three brothers, Robert "Punk" and Betty McKelvey of Elk Point, Ronnie McKelvey and Bill and Donna McKelvey, all of Jefferson; a sister, Gladys "Muffy" Sayler of Jefferson; two stepdaughters, Jen and Lee Williamson of Plainfield, Iowa, and Jessica and Todd Vrieze of Iowa; four stepgrandchildren, Levi, Landon, Chantelle and Adam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert McKelvey; and a brother, Danny McKelvey.
