SIOUX CITY -- Margaret Ann Fiegel, 68, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Koehler officiating. Private graveside services will be held. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Margaret was born Nov. 14, 1943, in Ponca, Neb., to Carl and Eva Armstrong. She graduated from Ponca High School and received her bachelor's degree in music education from Morningside College in Sioux City. Margaret taught music in Emmetsburg and Storm Lake, Iowa, before moving back to Sioux City. She had a lifelong love of music and taught piano lessons in her home for several years. Margaret also taught music appreciation classes at Western Iowa Tech Community College, ESL Language Lab at Morningside College and was a substitute teacher in the Sioux City Community Schools.
Margaret married Walt Fiegel on Dec. 29, 1969, in Tustin, Calif. During their 33-year marriage, Walt and Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and traveling together as well as supporting East High School. Walt preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2003.
Margaret enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, baking, reading, watching football and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and had several of her own signature recipes for special occasions.
Margaret was an active member of Morningside Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in Naomi Circle, Chancel Choir, Presbyterian Women and played the organ when needed. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter JH in Sioux City and Chapter NE in Lee's Summit, Mo.
Margaret is survived by seven Armstrong siblings; her children, Jill Fiegel Uhl of Lee's Summit, Beth Fiegel McAlpine and husband, Patrick of Little Rock, Ark., and Jim Fiegel and wife, Kirsten of Sioux City; and grandchildren, Kayla Louise Uhl, Eva Elizabeth Uhl, Walter David McAlpine, Andrew William McAlpine, Tyler James McAlpine, Daniel Walter Fiegel, and Claire Elizabeth Fiegel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
The family has asked that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the Ponca Fine Arts Building Project, Sunrise Retirement Community, Hospice of Siouxland or Morningside Presbyterian Church.
The Fiegel family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the friends, neighbors, nurses and extended family members who visited, prayed for and supported Margaret during her last years. They would also like to extend a special thank you to her very devoted sister, Jane Wilke, who lovingly cared for her each day. Margaret will be greatly missed.
