PONCA, Neb. | Margaret Lauretta Duffy Knerl, 91, of Ponca, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Nov. 21, 2012.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating, and Deacon Paul Treinen assisting. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. today at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home on Outer Belt Drive, in Sioux City.
She was born on March 31, 1921, to John Duffy and Helen McShane Duffy, in Jefferson, S.D. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940 and St. Joseph College of Nursing in 1943. She worked for Drs. McCarthy and Cmeyla.
On Oct. 7, 1957, she married Jerry Knerl of Ponca, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. They resided in Ponca until 1995, when they moved to Sioux City. She spent her last three years under the excellent care of Elms Health Care Center in Ponca.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Molly, and one grandson, James Northrup, both of Birmingham, Ala.; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Patricia and Phil Knerl of Ponca, Mary Ann and Tom Wente and JoEllen and Bill Treinen, all of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and eight brothers and sisters.
