SIOUX CITY -- Margaret Ann (Whicher) Larsen, 65, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Dec. 9, 2008, in San Antonio following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Merlin J. Schrad officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Margaret was born July 20, 1943, in Sioux City, the daughter of Frank P. and Mary Catherine (McEwen) Whicher. She was raised in Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School in 1962. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Briar Cliff College. She got her master's degree in special education from Morningside College in 2000.
She lived in Carroll, Iowa, where she taught at Holy Spirit School for nine years. She then returned to Sioux City and taught for eight years at the Hinton Community School System. She retired in 2005 and moved to San Antonio.
While living in Sioux City, she was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter GR, the St. Michael's choir and served as a lector and cantor. She was an active member of the Democratic Party.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Bradley A. and Leah Larsen of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Jennifer L. (Larsen) and Joe Wittmann of Carmel, N.Y.; two grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Patty and Jack Beyer of Sioux City and Laurie and Rob Daykin of Dundee, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank P. and Kay Whicher; and three sisters, Colleen "Col" Ford, Cathleen "Kit" Kohtz and Sue Petersen Vaughn.
Donations may be directed to the family for a memorial that will be established at a later date.
